FAQ

Common

questions

Where is Treehouse Lodge located and how do I get there?

Treehouse Lodge sits on the Yarapa River in the Peruvian Amazon, near the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. Travel to Iquitos by air (no roads connect it to the outside world), then we'll handle the 2.5-hour transfer — first by car, then by boat — to bring you straight to the lodge. We offer two daily airport pickups: 9:15 AM and 1:30 PM.

What's included in the all-inclusive rate?

Your stay includes round-trip transportation between Iquitos Airport and the lodge, three Peruvian-style meals per day, bottled water and juice at breakfast, all excursions of your choice, and an English/Spanish-speaking guide. Flights to Iquitos, drinks beyond water, tips, and souvenirs are not included.

When is the best time to visit — high water or low water season

High water (December–May) means rivers rise 20–25 feet, opening up more waterways for canoeing and creating the lushest jungle scenery. Low water (June–November) exposes more jungle paths for walking excursions, brings slightly warmer days, and tends to mean fewer mosquitoes. Both seasons offer outstanding wildlife viewing — it really comes down to whether you'd rather paddle or walk.

Are excursions included, and what's available?

Yes — every excursion is included in your rate, and you'll plan each day with your private guide on arrival. Choose from 18 unique excursions including sunrise birdwatching, swimming in the Amazon, dugout canoe trips, piranha fishing, jungle walks for medicinal plants and wildlife, sunset cruises with pink dolphins, nighttime caiman spotting, and stargazing.

What should I pack?

Lightweight, breathable clothing (avoid cotton), long pants and long-sleeved shirts for jungle walks, long socks, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, insect repellent with 20–30% DEET, sunscreen, a flashlight or headlamp, and a dry bag or Ziploc for camera gear. Bring cash in USD or Peruvian Soles (bills under $50) for drinks, tips, and souvenirs — all other expenses are covered. Please leave hairdryers, curling irons, and straighteners at home; they overload our solar power system.

Will I have WiFi or cell service?

No — and we consider that part of the experience. There's no WiFi or cell service at the lodge, which gives you a rare chance to fully unplug and reconnect with nature, your travel companions, and yourself. If you need to handle anything urgent, do it before you board the boat in Iquitos.
