How to Arrive
Step ONE
•
Guest(s) will arrange first flights to Lima, Peru or Panama City.
When traveling to Peru, many people like to combine a trip to Machu Picchu with a trip to the Amazon rainforest lodge. If this is something you want to do, we can make some recommendations. Flying between Machu Picchu near Cuzco and Iquitos is a fairly short flight, stopping briefly in Lima.
Most flights to Lima require you to spend one night before flying to Iquitos the next day. For your flight from Lima to Iquitos, we only recommend you fly with LATAM. LATAM is the largest airline with the most options, and it can be more expensive, but delays are fairly rare with them.

How to PRepare for Treehouse Lodge

Travel to peru
Get your flights and hotel reservations. Please see the travel section of this website for more information, and remember we can help book your travel or make recommendations. If you book your own travel, send us your flight details to and from Iquitos for pick-up and drop-off. On your flight to Peru, you will receive an immigration form. An officer will stamp the bottom third of this form—do not lose it, as you’ll need it at Immigration when you leave Peru.

what to bring
Prepare for your jungle adventure at the Treehouse Lodge in Peru with lightweight, breathable clothing that repels moisture. Wear long pants and long-sleeve shirts to ward off insects, and pack long socks and a hat for sun protection. Bring 1 pair of comfortable hiking shoes, insect repellent with 20-30% DEET, sunscreen, a camera, a dry bag for water protection, and a flashlight or headlamp. For more details, check out this link. (WHAT TO BRING LINK)

medications / vaccinations
Please visit this website to understand the recommendations of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Similar websites in other countries are also acceptable. The recommendations are organized into categories: All Travelers, Most Travelers, and Some Travelers. Schedule a visit with your doctor 4 – 6 weeks before your trip to discuss medications, vaccines, and antimalarial options. Some doctors will prescribe an antibiotic for gastrointestinal problems. Learn more from the CDC website here.

Electronic Devices
Electricity in Peru and at Treehouse Lodge is 220 Volts, using plugs with two thin rectangular prongs like those in the US. Check your devices for compatibility; most chargers will work but verify to avoid damage. We generate SOLAR electricity, so curling irons, blow dryers, and straighteners use too much power, hindering charging for other devices. Please leave these items at home. Some devices may need an adaptor, which should be purchased before your trip. Hair dryers are especially problematic, so consider a hairstyle that doesn’t require one.

Dietary Restrictions
We endeavor to serve food that will meet the tastes and needs of all guests. When we can, we will give you a couple choices, but the menu is not À la carte. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.

Money
The currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol. It’s best to withdraw cash from ATMs for a better conversion ratio instead of converting your currency. You’ll need cash for drinks, tips, and souvenirs at the lodge, as all other expenses are included. When visiting a local village, you can purchase handicrafts, and Treehouse Lodge also offers a few items.

gratuities
Tipping is customary in Peru although it is not obligatory. We pay our staff a wage or salary and if you feel they exceeded your expectations please feel free to tip your guide and your boat driver directly and/or any other member of the staff using the tip box in the Main Lodge.

communication
Although some may see it otherwise, we believe one of the real benefits of staying at Treehouse hotel is that you will not have WIFI or cell service. Reconnect with yourself, fellow travelers, and the world for a couple days by putting your communication devices away. Some of you may need to prepare by beginning a detox process in advance.

Travel Insurance
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect you from unforeseen and circumstances. These include trip interruption, airline delays and cancellations, illness, weather, and many other unpreventable situations. Travelguard is a well-establish and reputable provider of trip insurance. Best Time to go

High Water
- Typically December through May
- Rivers are about 20 – 25 feet higher.
- More waterways are navigable by canoe for animal and forest viewing in lakes and streams.
- More rain but generally not bad at all. Rain occurs frequently in low season too.
- A few degrees cooler.
- There tends to be a few more mosquitos, but that’s not an absolute and they can be found year round.
- 3 of the treehouses are in the flooded area between the river and the main lodge which makes a beautiful scene. The cable bridges easily carry you above the water.
- The amazon rainforest is usually its lushest and some would say most beautiful.
- More pink dolphins can be found directly in the front of the treehouse hotel, but they can easily be seen year round not far from the lodge.
Low Water
- Typically June through November
- Rivers are about 20 – 25 feet lower.
- More jungle paths are exposed for walking excursions.
- Travel to some areas requires a little walking instead of only canoe.
- Less rain.
- A few degrees warmer.
- There tends to be fewer mosquitos, but that’s not an absolute.
- More people travel to Peru during June – August because that’s when they go on vacation.
Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter – Treehouse Lodge remains an ideal vacation retreat year-round. In planning your trip, you will want to take into consideration the type of Amazon experience you prefer. December – May brings high-water followed by the low-water season that spans June – November. Still, the temperature, humidity, and daylight hours are similar year-round due to the lodge’s close location to the equator. Here are some of the differences between high water and low water seasons…
