Restaurant Recommendation: Morena Peruvian Kitchen

You’re standing in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, Peru,  an  UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ve just seen the breathtaking ruins of Saqsayhuaman, you’ve purchased an alpaca sweater, and then, all of a sudden, you realize that you’re starving.

What you need to do is immediately walk to the northwest corner of the plaza and walk directly to 320 Calle Procuradores where you’ll find Morena Peruvian Kitchen.

The decor is rustic, yet colorful, featuring white plaster, Cusqueño stones, and local artwork. Your host will seat you (as long as there isn’t a wait) in a comfortable wicker chair with cusions, and you’ll be presented with the menu.

What to order at Morena Peruvian Kitchen?

Follow your stomach, you can’t really go wrong with peruvian food. You can start with an appetizer, like Anticuchos de Corazón from the charcoal grill, marinated beef heart skewers, Salsa anticuchera, lima style tamal, Valley corn, grilled local cheese, roasted chilli chimichurri and huancaína sauce. Or Causitas from the Garden, made of potatoes topped with fresh beetroot, peas, carrot, avocado, olives tomatoes, mixed with egg free aioli, roasted black quinoa and huancaína sauce

I highly recommend the Lomo Saltado for the main course, which is a twist on a famous Peruvian dish. It features filet mignon, cooked to perfection, sauteed with soy sauce, red wine, garlic, tomatoes, and cilantro, served over a quinoa and huacaina sauce.

To drink you can order the freshly squeezed lime-ade, featuring lemon grass, it is the perfect drink to accompany your lomo saltado. You can also try a chicha morada, or a Cusqueña beer, and don’t leave without trying a cup of mate de coca.
